Digital Audio Extraction

Digital Audio Extraction:

If you have been on the internet you have probably seen them, songs that are available for download in the MP3 format. MP3 is a compressed music format that makes that music can be compressed in less then 10 times it’s original format, and thus are easier to download.

MP3 has been around on the internet for several years but is widely used to ‘record’ music from a CD and then make it available to others. So if you have a burner you will be able to download these files and burn a CD. Another option is to convert MP3 files back to their original format and create an audio CD of them, and play them on your CD player, Discman and in the car. There are more standards that are able compress audio such as Windows Media Audio (WMA) and VQF.

To create MP3 files you can use Digital Audio Extraction to copy the audio digitally to your harddrive. This process is totally digitally and does not need a soundcard. This process makes sure that you have the best quality audio possible. However not every drive is capable of doing this without errors, and some are not even capable of doing DAE.

On the page of CDSpeed2000 you can find results of drives that are capable of doing DAE.

Conclusion:

If you are planning to convert your audio collection to the MP3/WMA or another compressed format you should get yourself a drive that is capable of Digital Audio Extraction. If you already have a CD-ROM drive that is capable of this you don’t really need this, but why not buy a drive with this option if you don’t own a drive that is capable of DAE yet ?

Dysan cd-rw very bad indeed! Dysan awful cds I ever bought. After you burn them you can't get to read it back. I bought 5 jewel case cd-rw but everytime I record something I can't get none of my 2 cd burners (both ultraspeed) to read it back. This is one of the worst cd-rw I ever bought.
