Introduction

As promised, the second part of this year’s Holiday Gift Guide. This second part features the top five best-reviewed Flat Screens, both LCD and Plasma, from our partners of Reevoo.com. So if you are looking for a flat screen television, be sure to read further.Top 5 LCD Televisions

Top 5 Flat Screens

Size does seem to matter in the world of flat screen televisions. All but one top 5 best-reviewed televisions are all at least 42”, with only the Samsung being 32” and taking fifth place. Connectivity seems to be important as well, with the LG plasma having two HDMI ports, while all LCDs come equipped with three HDMI ports.

LG 42LG5010

LG goes all the way with this 42” LCD model. As said it’s rich on connectivity with 3 HDMI, but it also features 2 scart, a component and a PC connection. With a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, this LG can handle Full-HD material.
Amazon price: 1st generation: $979,99 £615,99 ( Full Reevoo Rating : 9.2)

2.      Sony Bravia KDL46X300

This Sony Bravia features several imaging enhancement techniques. For movie fanatics, the 24p True Cinema mode allows you to enjoy Blu-Ray disks at the correct frame rate, meaning no image-degrading conversion is required. Combined with a pretty high score on design, this television should appeal to many people, although the price probably prevented it from getting to first place.

Amazon price: £1747,26 (Full Reevoo Rating9.2)

3.      LG 42PT85

The only plasma model in this flat screen television roundup is a special one, as it comes with a built-in hard-disk recorder. Since it can’t handle full-HD, this LG is probably not suitable for real movie fanatics. However, if you are searching for a fancy looking flat screen while at the same time wanting to switch to digital recording (for instance since your good old VHS-recorder went bust), then this LG plasma might just be the thing for you.

Amazon price:   £926,49 (Full Reevoo Rating9.2)

4.    Toshiba 46XF355D

Toshiba is also doing a good job with this 46” LCD model. It features full-HD and has the same connectivity as the no.1 LG, although it has to do without a PC connection. However, the Toshiba does feature a built-in digital tuner. It also scores very high on design.

Amazon price:  £999,99 ( Full Reevoo Rating : 9.2)

5.    Samsung LE32A436T

Although the smallest of all five, this Samsung has the same rich connectivity as the Toshiba. While not able to display Full-HD, it is able to display 720p and 1080i material, making it HD-ready. With a very reasonable price, this television would be a perfect choice for students, or just if you think your bedroom needs a flat screen as well.

Amazon Price: $611,46 £361,45 (Full Reevoo Rating9.1)

Top 5 Blu-ray players

Five players, three brands – with Panasonic and Samsung both claiming two places in this top five. They all score high on ease of use, design, and picture quality. These are the five best-reviewed standalone Blu-ray players from Reevoo.

1.       Panasonic BD30AEG-K

Best image and sound quality according to the reviews at Reevoo. Features a built-in memory card reader, in order to watch jpegs in HD quality. Also acts as an upscaler. Amazon Price: $258,82 £223.34 (Full Reevoo Rating9.2)

2.       Samsung BD-P1500

The Samsung BD-P1500 comes in second place. Has less features than the no.1 Panasonic, but is also a lot cheaper. Does feature an Ethernet connection for firmware upgrades, and also acts (selectable) as an upscaler.

Amazon Price: $214,68£162,95 (Full Reevoo Rating9.1)

3.       Panasonic DMP-BD355-K

Coming in third, we find another Panasonic. The reviewers at Reevoo found the remote very intuitive, and stated the design being attractive as well. Appears to be a decent Blu-Ray profile 1.1 player.

Amazon Price: $299,95 ( Full Reevoo Rating8.9)

4. Sony BDP-S300

The Sony offers upscaling, and a range of connectivity. Also has Bravia Theater Sync, which might decrease the amount of remotes on your table.

Amazon Price: $239.48/ £175,00 (Full Reevoo Rating8.6)

5.    Samsung BD-P1400

The earlier version of the BD-P1500, this Samsung Blu-ray player has the same features and functionality as the newer P1500. However, the P1500 supports the newer profile 1.1/2.0 while this BD-P1400 does not. Still deserves a place in our top five because of the high popularity, although it is priced quite high compared to the newer version. Amazon Price: $329.88£158,99 (Full Reevoo Rating8.6)

Panasonic, Pioneer, are by far the leading manufacturers of Plasma HDTV's. Not sure why you're not including them, but you're missing out if you ignore them.

Blu-Ray writers & players

Blu-ray has won the war for the new high definition optical format. More frequently manufacturers are presenting laptops and desktops which feature a blu-ray drive. Blu-ray players are only able to read Blu-ray (and CD/DVD) media, whereas Blu-ray writers are able to write Blu-ray, CD and DVD media. At the moment blank Blu-ray drives are still rather expensive though, but Blu-ray offers high storage capacity which makes it an excellent back-up medium.
