'What is BD-Live?'

BD-Live (also named Blu-Ray Disc Profile 2.0) is a relatively new Blu-Ray feature which was introduced in the second half of 2008. It enables you to access content via your Blu-Ray player, provided the latter has an internet connection. Instead of being stuck with the extra content on the disc you bought in the store, you can download new content like movie trailers, quizzes, special features, games, internet chats, previews, interactive content, wallpapers and additional movie clips. The advantage is that this content can be updated continuously, while content on a disc stays the same.

The first device which could handle this new technology was the Sony Playstation 3. Not long after that, many manufacturers (like Panasonic and LG) followed with updated versions of their Blu-Ray players so they could handle BD-live too.

So, if you want to have access to much more content than a standard Blu Ray disc offers, make sure you have a Blu-ray player with an internet connection and the newest firmware. Note that some players may have an Ethernet port, but that this port is used for firmware updates and not for internet-based content.
