All Profile Features Questions

My Public Profile

Every member has a publicly viewable profile page. This page includes information provided by the member, either during the registration process or later on via the Account Settings. There are a number of ways to view a member's profile. Whenever you see a member's name, clicking on it will usually take you to view their profile page. When logged in, you can also view your own public profile by logging into the forums and clicking on your username shown in the header at the top of the page.

Visitor messages are publicly viewable messages posted on member profile pages. To post a message, use the form at the bottom of the user profile. To communicate privately with a member, send a Private Message instead.

Visitor messages can be edited or deleted by site moderators or the member who owns the profile. If you see a visitor message that is not appropriate, you can alert the moderators by clicking on the 'Report' link. The 'View Conversation' link allows you to view all visitor messages between the member and the owner of the profile.

Account Settings

The Account Settings page is where you control your personal settings, options and preferences. To visit the Account Settings, you must have first registered on the community. Once logged in, click on 'Settings' in the header bar near the top of the page.

The Account Settings notification page will list any new notifications, including new private messages and pending friend requests. Additional pages and forms allow you to control things like your email address and password, Private messages, Subscribed Discussion and Contacts and friends.

For editing basic profile details (including your email address and password), click on the 'Edit Your Details' option from within the Account Settings. This page allows you to set a number of required and optional details, some of which will be displayed on your public profile. With the exception of your email address, do not enter information that you do not wish to be publicly viewable.

Signatures and Profile Pictures

'Signatures' contain information that you want to include at the bottom of all your posts. This might include links to your site(s), quotes, etc. However, please do not put commercial information in your signature.

Profile pictures are small images that people use to identify or distinguish themselves to other community members. These avatars will be displayed as part of the user info in posts, as well as in the public profile.

You can set and change your signature and profile picture in the Account Settings panel

Friends and Contacts

A friendship is a mutual, two-way relationship between two users. It is initiated by one user and accepted by the other. A contact is a one-way friendship. This could be where the other person does not accept the friendship, a friendship request is pending, or you do not wish to be friends at this time but want to show them as a contact only. Your friends and contacts are displayed on the 'Contacts and Friends' page in your Account Settings page. Your friends are also displayed in your profile page.

The easiest way to become friends is to view the profile page of the person you want to become friends with and click the 'Befriend' link. The other way is to add the person to your contacts first. Then from your 'Contacts and Friends' page ask to be their friend by checking the box next to their name labelled 'Friend'. Next, save the page.

To accept a friend, go to your 'Contacts and Friends' page. At the bottom of the page you will see a list of pending requests. Check the box for the requests you wish to accept then check the 'Accept' button and save the changes. If you do not wish to be friends then select 'Reject' instead.

Private Messages

Registered members may send each other private messages. They work a little like email, but are limited to registered members of this community. You may be able to include BB code, smilies and images in private messages that you send.

You may send a private message to a member of this community by clicking the 'Send A Private Message' link in the private messaging section of your Account Settings pages, or by clicking the 'Send a Private Message' link that appears in a member's posts around the community.

By default, you will have two folders in your private message area. These are the 'Inbox' and the 'Sent' Items folders. The 'Inbox' folder contains any new messages you receive. It allows you to view all the messages you have received, along with the name of the person who sent it, and the date and time it was sent. The 'Sent Items' folder contains a copy of any messages that you have sent, where you have specified that you wish to keep a copy for future reference. You can create additional folders for your messages by clicking the 'Edit Folders' link.

What are Subscriptions

Subscriptions are a way of keeping track of different discussions or forums. You can choose how you are notified about updates - for example by having them listed in your notifications page and receiving email updates for each one.

To subscribe to a forum, check the 'Forum Tools' link right to the list of threads then select 'Subscribe to Forum'. You will then have the option to choose the subscription mode for this forum. If the forum that you are subscribing to has any child forums (forums within a forum) then your subscription will be extended to these automatically.

To subscribe to a discussion, check the 'Thread Tools' right to the list of posts then click 'Subscribe to Thread'. You can then choose the subscription mode that you wish to use for that thread.

Profile Completeness

As you know, every member has his own profile to identify him/herself on the community. User profiles give the ability to build a reputation in the community. However, you might have noticed something new, located in the yellow box: a blue 'progress' bar with a percentage figure in it. This blue bar shows the current status on your profile. We have added this functionality because the more people know about you and the products you use, the better people can help you without having to ask more questions. Experience shows that people with complete profiles are helped ten times faster by our community. Complete your profile right now by clicking here, or read further for a more detailed explanation of profile completeness at MyCE.

What is Profile Completeness and Why Should I Use It?

Your profile consists of three sections:
1. Add products to your profile
2. Add an avatar to your profile
3. Add some personal information about yourself

First we will discuss why you should add products you want and have to your profile. By adding products you have to your profile, the community members can quickly see which products and configuration you are using. In this way, people can help you out faster since they have to ask less questions and the questions they ask are better tuned to your problem. Additionally, you can receive the latest updates and tips on your products. But of course, you can also use it as a way to show off your latest electronic catch

Secondly, by adding a profile picture, you are able to distinguish yourself amongst our community members. This can be your photograph, like Robin does with his profile picture, or if you're not so much of a looker you can add a so-called avatar. This can be any picture of something you like, for instance mine is a Bee. Adding a profile picture helps our community to recognize you, and we clearly notice more and better responses to questions from people with a face than those talking question marks.

Finally, we would like to get to know you better because you are the community. By filling out some of the information we can be of better service to you.

How to Complete Your Profile

You can complete your profile by clicking on the update profile link in the lower right corner of the yellow box when you are logged in (or take the shortcut here). Once you are there, you will see [1] the option to search for a product, by filling out the name of the product in the search box on the left side. For instance, should you have or want an iPhone 3GS, just enter this in the box and click on have respectively want. You can also click on the suggestions to add to find the most popular products per category.

Alternatively, [2] you will see several products for which you can select that you either have or want them - these are just some suggestions of most popular products.

As you can see from the screenshot below, the iPhone 3GS is now added to your profile. This has led to an increase in your profile completeness (from 13% to 19%) as indicated by the blue bar on the right. If you don't see this increase, please refresh your page (by hitting F5).

BeforeAfter

Notice also at the right side the completion tips [3]. The first tips will include adding a product that you either have or want to have, as explained above. Later on, you will be asked to add a profile picture (avatar) or to enter some other information. Just click on the completion tip to enter the requested information.
