10 year support for Windows 10 starts when you first use it

The 10 year support Microsoft promises to Windows 10 users will start at the moment they use the operating system for the first time. Gartner analyst Steven Kleynhans has stated this in an article on Computerworld.

"Microsoft's intention is that you will get 10 years minimum of updates for Windows 10, both feature and security updates."

However, the computer still needs to be supported by the hardware manufacturer. An user with a Windows 10 device with a 16GB HDD where the operating system doesn't fit on anymore, is just unlucky.

" They'll support [Windows 10] until the hardware physically can't handle it", according to the analist. Or until the decade expires, whichever comes first.

Entirely new is that support starts at the moment Windows 10 is used for the first time.

"If I bought a new PC four years from now, I will get 10 years from that point," said Kleynhans.

Previously Microsoft ended support of its operating systems on set dates, unregarded from which date the consumer bought the computer.
