Black Friday Blu-ray deals

Posted 25 November 2008 04:48 CET by Randomus

Black Friday is just a mere four days away, and some of you will brave frigid weather and throngs of shoppers to head out and look for deals. If you’re out looking for a snazzy standalone Blu-ray player for the holidays, then we’re here to help out and make some recommendations.

I’m going to list several different popular brick and mortar retailers in the United States, and will list the different models that are available for sale from those stores.

There are several stores omitted from the list, but some scanned ads have not been confirmed or are missing product details.

Let’s jump right into the list.

Best Buy

Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray player available for $199.99

Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray player available for $249.99.

Samsung 5.1-Channel Home Theater System With Built-in Blu-ray Player for $599.99.

Best Buy also will have the Samsung 1080p upconvert DVD player for $49.99.

Circuit City

Circuit City has the Samsung BDP-1500 BD-Live for $199 (regular price $250),

Blu-ray/TV bundles:

Sony 40" 1080p LCD HDTV KDL40V4100 and Sony BDPS350 Blu-ray player available for $1,199.98.

Sony 46" 1080p LCD HDTV KDL46V4100 and Sony BDPS350 Blu-ray player available for $1,499.98.

Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart will offer a Magnavox 1080p Blu-ray player this Friday for just $128.  The company did not list model numbers, so it’s possible the models could range depending on stock and availability at different stores.

The Magnavox deal lacks DTS HD Master and Dolby TruHD, but the low price tag should appeal to customers who simply want a Blu-ray player for a lower price.  The Magnavox also has the ability to upscale regular DVDs up to 1080p quality.

Consumers looking for a higher-end Blu-ray model will be able to purchase the Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray player for $198 from Wal-Mart on Friday.

Sears

Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray Player for $199.99.

Several upconverting DVD players will also be available at Sears, with prices ranging from $49.99 to $69.99.

AAFES

For U.S. military members or dependants, the AAFES will have the Sharp BDHP21U Blu-ray player available for $189.

Each store listed also has an assortment of Blu-ray movies available, with prices varying from $6.99 up to their regular retail price.

Remember that "Cyber Monday," the day for online retailer deals is on Monday, so you don’t necessarily have to fight the crowds if looking for a good deal.

It’s very possible I missed some good Black Friday sales, so if you find any other deals related to Blu-ray players or movies, please feel free to leave a comment.

Happy hunting!

Damn, these are some good deals - hopefully I can find some equally smart ones in Canada. Course, there's always online... ;-)

Cheers!

Danny.

It sucks that those of us in Canada don't get a similar kind of day. I'm thinking maybe Purple Friday. It would go something like this.

Guy: Hey Duke, what's up?
Duke: It's Purple Friday and everything is on sale.
Guy: So where are you off to, eh?
Duke: I'm heading to Best Buy for some Blu-ray goodness.
Guy: Really?
Duke: Shit no.

Paid $159 for Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray player last month from Amazon.com so Sears, CC and BB are too little too late!

@ johnnyjt

Let me see if I've got this right. You paid a 59% premium because you couldn't hold your wad for another 30 days and you think Sears, CC, and BB are the ones losing out?

@Pukem
No you don't have it right. You've never been right in any posting I've seen here. The one thing you are is annoying.

i used to go by steveo119, and i live in north-east scotland, in a place called elgin, so if you can find out where the other steve comes from, then you'll find that its just sheer coincidence that we both think you're a tool!!

@pukem
You and your avatar are the only things that smell fishy around here. I don't need to create allies that agree with me. Besides, steve119, calls you a tool and I say you're a fool.
By the way, steve119, I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and always glad to meet another who can spot a big windbag like paranoid Pukem.

i personally think that duke probably is either a 17 year old or a 40 year old geek, that has to have a so-called tough looking avatar and nickname to mask some of his many insecurities. but then i think its cruel to take the micky out of the inflicted so i'll stop there.

@ steve119 (guest)
At least he has an avatar! You guys need to register if you are going to rag on folks. Makes your comments carry more weight! http://www.cdfreaks.com/jochem/../im...ies/2/wink.gif As a proud Scotsman - you ought to be able to pick out a great avatar too! What did Mike Meyers (Austin Powers) used to say on Saturday Night Live? "If it ain't Scottish....it's Crrrrrap!" LOL

PS- I would wager Duke is OVER 40- waaaaay over, as I think someone that uses that avatar probably played the first DukeNukem games which were awesome BTW.

I'm 41, so I don't think that's way over. You'd never know I was into games or computers, though. I'm 6'3", slim, good looking. A real hottie, if you will. I feel bad for the two steves. They just step up to the plate, shout out some insults that would make a 5 year old laugh, and then leave. No real reading material is left behind. Nothing constructive anyway. I have a life, so I'm not going to bother playing their game.

so not only are you a tool, you're also very vain too, with a mid life crisis! and as for stepping up to the plate, then leaving, please note that i'm about 8-9 hours ahead of you! i can only see the immature comments are from yourself, always slagging off sony! oh, and believe me, for a 10 year difference, you're WELL over!!

Pukem boasts: "I'm 6'3", slim, good looking. A real hottie, if you will".
My response: Who gives a flyin' f*ck. Please post your vital stats elsewhere , along with your ignorant, paranoid screeds.
