Startup target=_new>chip manufacturer Adimos, is providing a handy solution for
those that would like to send the video from the DVD player, without wires,
to their video device in an uncrowded 5 gigaherts range. Microwave popcorn
as you watch Nemo at the same time without fear of interference.

Systems, a small start-up wireless video-chip maker, said Monday that
Toshiba had agreed to build its wireless video module into televisions and
related consumer products like DVD players and set-top cable and satellite
TV boxes.

The technology from Adimos,
which styles itself as a “digital Switzerland” between competing factions
of manufacturers and providers who want to transform home-entertainment
systems, will be used to make it possible to connect video equipment
without cables to support a generation of flat-panel televisions that
could hang on walls. It will also enable new digital players to send video
to older analog televisions. While much of the consumer electronics and
computer industry is focusing on a wireless fidelity, or WiFi, standard
known as 802.11g, the Adimos technology is based on an alternative, known
as 802.11a.

There may be good technical
reasons for Adimos’s choice, as it is based in the 5-gigahertz frequency
range, which is less crowded than the 2.4-gigahertz spectrum that is
cluttered with all kinds of consumer devices that can interfere with one
another.

Adimos has also added
features to its version of the WiFi standard that are intended to ensure a
steady and uninterrupted video stream.
