Another taiwanese company plans Blu-ray player production

Those who have been looking for a DVD player the last few years might have noticed that their prices have dropped amazingly compared to what they were when the DVD player entered the market. This is due the enormous amount of competition between manufacturers of DVD players, many of them based in China where they are made with cheap labour.

For Blu-ray player prices to come down it is also important that competition picks up and that parts decrease in price. Good news for those who also believe in this theory as the Taiwanese company Kolin has announced that it will start production of Blu-ray players between the third and fourth quarter of this year.

The company which is currently known for making LCD TVs and other electrical home appliances will use pickup heads and chipsets from Sharp. Unfortunately they are not going to bring down prices yet as Digitimes reports that the first players will be sold for about US$977.

The company will also take OEM deals from a company named Syntax-Brillian which will sell the Blu-ray players by their Olevia brandname.
