Asus is apparently trying to build more buzz around its ultra-thin "U" series laptops, detailing the products months after their initial reveal.
No matter, at least we’ve got more specs to work with now, and they make for good conversation, what with Dell’s Adamo trying to wrangle top dollar from consumers, and the ever-looming temptation of the MacBook Air.
The U Series comprises seven models with screen sizes from 12.1-inches to 15.6-inches. Three of these laptops measure under 1.2-inches thick, though the 13.3-inch UX30 is the thinnest at 0.9 inches, lacking the DVD burner of its peers. Processors range from Intel Celeron M to 2.66 Ghz Core Duo. There’s a variety of graphics cards in these computers as well, with Intel’s GMA 4500 on the low end and the 512MB Mobility Radeon HD 4570 or GeForce G 105M for gamers.
Other key specs include up 4 GB of DDR2 RAM, hard drives of up to 500 GB, Bluetooth and Altec Lansing speakers with SRS Premium Sound.
Overall, the specs on these machines, particularly the high-end models, aren’t much different than the Adamo, except for its inclusion of a solid state drive instead of HDD. And while the Adamo boasts aluminum casing and stylized design, Asus’ U series looks pretty good from afar and probably won’t cost upwards of $2,000, as Dell’s laptop does.
Prices and release dates, however, remain unknown.
