The German publisher Heise reports in their online newsticker, that the Australian music association ARIA is about to sue internet providers, for not preventing their users from copying music through the internet

> The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) is planning lawsuits against internet providers that do not prevent their users from downloading illegal music via the internet. ARIA-manager Michael Speck claims that the providers generate 20% of their sales with users violating copyrights.

The providers agree on helping the copyright holders but they refuse being made responsible for activities of their customers. Contrary to the US music industry, the Australian has no plans to sue private customers.

I wonder how the providers should be able to prevent users from exchanging illegal data through the internet. The only way to do that is to not let someone use internet at all. If they block port 1214, Kazaa-users would just change to a different port and continue downloading. And how should they be able to distinguish between legal and illegal downloads from a webserver?

that is crazy... they need to focus their efforts on illegal mass copiers... ones making the big money cause they have little costs because all they pay for is equiptment to copy! who wants to buy music if it is going to pay to get individuals sued for previewing or figuring out if an album is worth the money.... also they could better spend the money on finding better talent or helping the current artists make better albums... they have lost total focus on that the problem is! BAD music = bad sales! one hit wonders can not happen year after year when the rest of the CD sucks people SELLING illegal copies on the street/stores/internet and marketing them as real copies. this goes for all Record Labels worldwide.

Screw ARIA. I Hardly even Buy CD's of DVD's any more after a bad Experience With a Music Retailer. When you buy their shit Legally and it will not play because of there Inferior Copy protection shit that does not work. You take it back to the retailer and they play it back at Without sound..screen so far away I could barely see...(this is Music DVD ?) Get Abused by the Big-W Staff member, saying that they do not Refund DVD's, I did not ask for a Refund...I wanted a Replacement that I could listen to Without the Noise in the Middle that Froze my DVD player. Made me feel about two feet Tall in Front of many Customers, I said I did not want money back but a Replacement. She said that she will not replace it Unless they have Another Copy. She come back and Put another on there counter and said Their. It is little wonder while People Download copies off P2P.

Now many people in australia will wake up realising that they are under the legal ministration of an american home law (esp IP's).. The right to interpret and enact copyright law pertaining to this country and its people was signed away by the new govenor of the 54th state of america..John (dipshit) howard........dipshits first edict was to make the patriot act law and rename the noo state.."Orstraya".....in honour of that other dipshit........(not as long as my arse points toward the ground baby).......... :X

Too late ! We (I'm for sure) have realised this long ago. Yet the Americans are still coming to our shores...and carry with them their dictatorial terms about what Australians should do! It's a pity that Little Johnny is George Dubya's little pet!

OK, I get it... So, because the music industry can't handle their own fans, they force others to act as police. In other words, ISP's are now obliged to become nannies of misbehaved children because their own mothers cannot make them obey. Next thing we know, electricity providers will also be obliged to differentiate between the electricity provided for "good" of "evil" reasons... :+

I have kazaa set on port80. Are they just going to start blocking port80 now?, i don't think so:P. Good luck stopping p2p traffic i say, how do they know what is legal p2p and what is illegal p2p traffic you are downloading?, there is no way they will know that is why telling isps they must stop this is an absolute joke.
