Many US high-def fans who rushed out to buy Iron Man on Blu-ray this week were forced to wait up to an hour before the movie would play as the disc attempted to download interactive content.
Iron Man’s BD-Live features insisted on downloading an interactive quiz from the internet before the movie would start, but Paramount’s BD-Live servers buckled under the load. The work around was to change the BD-Live settings from Auto to Confirm, or disconnect the player from the internet.
After heavily publicising Iron Man’s use of BD-Live, Paramount responded to the situation by adding extra servers to handle to load. It also issued the following statement;
"The Iron Man Blu-ray went on sale Tuesday and due to the overwhelming popularity of the release an unprecedented demand was placed on the BD-Live connection."
"The disc represents a truly state-of-the art Blu-ray presentation with a first of its kind BD-Live application. As such, the heavy amount of traffic strained the servers due to so many people heading to the same destination. The bandwidth capacity was increased in preparation for the release but the demand exceeded all expectations so capacity was expanded dramatically last night and local servers were established worldwide to accommodate all the fans."
"The issue should be completely resolved but if anyone experiences a brief traffic jam, we have provided consumers with a menu option during disc startup that allows them to go directly to the movie main menu or continue to download the BD-Live features."

Well there you have it, kids. You can't just put in your paid-for movie and play the damn thing. You have to bend to the will of the studios and go to the internet to get the quiz which wasn't the main reason you paid the $40 in the first place. This just makes me sick.

First I heard of it. What was their advertising budget? $50?

Looks to me like you pissed off a lot of people, Paramount. Are they impressed? Not so much.
Many things are coming out that will challenge the status quo..
Pandora portable gaming console will crush all the crap out there Push for this project
I wonder how their servers would handle the load if Blu-Ray was as popular as DVD. You'd probably have to wait for weeks or months until it works. What a great feature.
I told you.... this things will happen. Who cares about Profile 2.0, we just want to watch the damn movie. I'm happy with Profile 1.1 player now.
I'm not looking to use a firewall to block PowerDVD from accessing the internet, although that is an option. I just want it to pretend that BD Live never existed unless I want it to. Consumer choice...that's what I'm looking for. money creates power, which then becomes greed, which then creates CONTROL.

They probably didn't need the server power. They just needed to make it an option in the menu. It's a good bet, given the choice, a very low percentage would bother to download the contect. Only the fact that it was required to start the disc, over loaded the servers. It's just a badly laid out disc.
GABF RULEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or maybe they'll just put them on the disk, since they'll have so much room for all the "extras".
I like how these companies force you to watch something. I wouldn't be surprised if they started to make you watch commercials before even watching a Bluray flick sort of like what the theaters do.
All NMT's are BluRay players just not BluRay Disc players. I don't care about menus or PIP or profiles. I just wanna watch full1080p ES video and full HD audio which all NMT's do. Just watched Eraser BluRay last night so don't tell me my NMT is NOT a BluRay player cause I can't stick a disc in it. The future is NOT optical.
You're right, it isn't optical. 1.5 TB drives just came out. Now is the time !!! I'm thinking either Popcorn Hour or HDX 1000. The HDX 1000 is bigger, but it's aluminum (doesn't get as hot) and has a power button.
I have a PCH A-100 but I have had mine since they first came out. If you need HD audio bitstreaming get the PCH A-110 if you don;t need HD audio and already have an AVR that decodes AC3/DTS get an A-100. You can do HD Audio with the A-100's via (L)PCM (DTS-MA/TrueHD -> 5.1 PCM) via software.
Awesome alliteration. Good job.
