After we reported the world’s fastest 6x write-once Blu-ray disc earlier this month, now also Delkin comes with Blu-ray news. It seems every manufacturer wants to earn its spot, in the still young and developing market.
Delkin Devices comes with a new disc they rather refer to as ‘Archival Gold’. This ‘gold’ quality Blu-ray disc is the world’s first to guarantee two centuries of safe data storage, says Delkin. It’s "guaranteed to preserve data safely for over 200 years", meaning we will now need players that survive that long.
A special technology protects the disc against UV degradation and should have a sunscreen effect. Besides this we see a protective layer, a so-called anti-scratch coating, and they come in a 10-pack 25GB version costing $250. Ouch!
