Boxee has publicly launched a new alpha release designed for Microsoft Windows users, allowing them to finally begin watching TV over the Internet.
The new Windows update offers better performance and should promise less CPU usage compared to what some Boxee users saw before. A beta version is expected sometime before the end of the year. The company is best known for its service — although available for Mac and Ubuntu Linux — and hopes to continue to make a big splash with its Windows versions.
Along with the newly added Windows support, the update also adds support for Major League Baseball content through MLB.TV, bringing even more content to the new service. Boxee already has content support from CBS, MTV, Hulu, and other partners working through the site. It’s also possible to watch the Digg video section, with the popular site offering its most popular videos section to Boxee.
The Windows version works with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and will work for Windows 7.
There are still quite a few quirks that need to be ironed out, but that’s not too surprising considering it’s just in alpha release at the moment. The menu has a clean layout, but navigating through Boxee content can be rather troublesome, as some users claim they need to use keyboard shortcuts to navigate through its interface.

Have you tried it out? If so, what did you think?
