Freaks Review Team member, target="">Dee-27, has just published her preview of the newest DVD re-writer
from the Sony NEC Optiarc group. In particular, the Sony AW-G170A. The drive
is sporting some nice specs too! 18x DVD style=" FONT-FAMILY: 'Verdana','sans-serif'">± style="COLOR: black">R, 8x/6x DVD+RW/DVD-RW, 12x DVD-RAM and 8x
DVD+R DL/DVD-R DL writing, makes this a fast and
versatile piece of hardware indeed.

Remember, this is only a preview. But, you will probably
notice that she will go into quite a bit of detail and can give us all
a good feel for the capabilities of this drive. It even looks like she got hold
of some Maxell 12x DVD-RAM media for testing read and write speeds with this

The faster we go in this genre, the easier we crash and end up with coasters. I never burn faster than 8x for the same reason I never burned CDs faster than 12x: reliability and compatibility. Speed is a poser's game. YMMV.

i always burn @ 16x. Have had no probs till date.
