The HELIOS H4000 HD Upscaling DVD Player is the only player in the market that can bring your home theater images to a stunning 1080p resolution at 50Hz through HDMI, component and even better, 720p and 1080i through VGA/RGB-HV outputs. Its HDMI output even lets you switch between HDMI and DVI mode to improve compatibility with your HDTV.

With 10 different resolutions to choose from, the H4000 upscales not only your standard DVD titles and HVDs, but also your ‘home-made” DVDs, not to mention SRT, SUB and all other MPEG4 formats such as DivX and XviD stored in your CDRs and DVDRs at up to 4500 kbit bit-rate!

VGA/RGB-HV outputs even give you the ability to upscale to 1080i on your projectors! And with 576i video output via HDMI, the H4000 is ideal for your external video scalers.

The H4000 supports both PAL and NTSC and is capable of playing back just about every popular format available. Looks like a very nice DVD player. Does any1 own 1, what is your opinion? If it performs as well as it advertises, then we really don't need HD DVD or Blu-Ray!

I got one two weeks ago. It is very hard for me to say (detect) if the image quality is better than my already nice Denon DVD-2900 doing an A/B test, also since my HDTV the RCA F38310 already converts 480p component to 1080i and the Helios H4000 invokes the screen saver so damn fast (about 30 seconds). A few very annoying things about the H4000 is that after the screen saver has invoked you have to press play twice to continue the movie and if the unit is turned off with a disc inside, pressing Eject causes the disc to be read (load) first and then you can finally press Eject a second time to eject the disc!?! Also you can only fast forward AVI (Divx) files about 3xnormal speed, meaning hell if you need to finish a previous unfinished movie. One time I gave up wacthing the last 5 minutes of a Divx movie after I had paused the movie for about 2 minutes. When I came back the screen saver had invoked and pressing Play twice as usual with this player, caused the movie to start from the begining. This was probably a glitch as I have not been able to reproduce this behaviour. Can only hope a firmware update will fix such stupidities.

Ok I am getting pissed about this player and have send off a firmware request, replacement or Return authorizatuion (RMA) since I have now discovered, besides the above annoying bugs, that the sound is a few seconds out of sync when the player resumes play after a pause (still). Sure the sound catches up the the action (lip movement) after a minutes or two, but this behavior is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!

I received mine a week ago and I have a Mitsubishi 65" WD-65732 which has the ability to do 1080p over HDMI. This dvd player will not display 1080p on this tv! I thought maybe it was my tv I contacted Mitsubishi and they did their troubleshooting on it. I then asked Neodigits and told me it was a known issue with some TVs displaying 1080p. Isn't the whole idea of advertising it as an upscaling dvd player that can display 1080p over HDMI and component the whole idea of this dvd player? They said they are working on a firmware to fix this problem and that it is due around the end of December. It did play my divx files very easily but with many of the fansub anime I have it cuts half of the subtitles off and at least from what I saw in the settings there is no way to adjust the edges of the screen from the dvd player. It is really disappointing when the main feature of 1080p does not work with a pretty popular DLP tv. :r

I have owned the Helios H4000 for several months now and I have mixed reactions to it. The unit has numerous bugs that I am told by Neodigits should be remedied in the first firmware update that is supposed to be released some time in Feb. 2007. 1) While upscaling some dvds, there is a refracted vertical strip that runs the length of the left side of the screen. 2) When reversing a dvd during playback and then trying to go back into play mode, multiple presses of the play button are required to get the unit out of reverse mode. This also happens with fast forward occaisionaly. 3) When playing a burned cd, the player goes into a screensaver mode and when it does, there is a loud pop followed by a distorted, pixelated mess that fades in and out. 4) The issue with having to disable the subtitles every time you play a retail dvd is annoying as well. Overal however I am very satisfied with both the HDMI and component outputs images in 1080i mode. Everyone I have showed Sin City to says they have never seen a dvd image look so crisp. We all agree that the added resolution makes your dvd's that you are probably used to viewing in 480p look far more 3D and sharper with excellent color depth, deep black levels and little to no artifacting depending on the quality of the dvd you are playing. As long as Neodigits fixes the issues this player has via a firmware upgrade, I will be a very satisfied customer. Also, I purchased this unti from Compuplus.com for $148.
