Sony may have come to the conclusion that it has wasted billions trying to get a stand-alone Blu-ray player into your home.

According to The Standard, Sony may have wasted a small fortune investing in hardware when it should have been spending it on streaming technology.

It seems Sony thought HD alone would be a big enough draw for Blu-ray, but it’s coming around to the fact that people aren’t flocking to it like white on rice. With only a quarter of US households owning an HDTV, just a fraction of those users actually have any HD media.

While the media industry predicts Blu-ray sales won’t overtake DVD until 2012, streaming media companies have lots of time to get their piece of the pie.

That's what I call "confusing headlines". When I read "... better than Blu-ray", I expect it to be about QUALITY. Now it's about numbers, and just for Sony, not even for me as a costumer either of Blu-ray or streaming media. Confusing and misleading headline.

@ Alex Sorry for any confusion. I guess "better" depends on how you look at it. Better can be quality, convenience, or cost. In this case I think we can rule out quality. There won't be a provider in the world that can handle Blu-ray quality. The bandwidth just isn't there.
