Iomega Announces New 8.5 Gigabyte Dual-Layer DVD Recorder

SAN DIEGO, May 24, 2004 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage, today introduced the new Iomega® Super DVD Writer 12x Dual-Format USB 2.0 Drive. Scheduled to ship in June, Iomega's dual-layer DVD drive is the first in a new generation of external Iomega DVD recorders that can store up to 8.5 GB* on a single DVD+R DL (double layer) disc. Together with an outstanding collection of software, the new drive gives users a convenient tool for managing their videos, data, music and photos.

Iomega will unveil the new Iomega Super DVD Writer 12x Dual-Format USB 2.0 Drive at this week's CeBIT America tradeshow in New York City, May 25-27, 2004.

New 8.5 GB Capacity
DVD+R DL discs have two recording layers rather than one,
providing users with 8.5 GB total capacity, or 80 percent more than the previous
generation of 4.7 GB DVD discs. This new capacity confers a number of important
benefits:

Users can store DVD-quality home video at higher bit rates,
improving picture and resolution and quality. Businesses can archive up to 12
CDs worth of data on a single DVD+R DL disc, reducing cost and complexity. IT
departments can build system images for their clients PC's. Filmmakers can master and test new DVD titles using inexpensive discs before pressing a batch of discs with traditional equipment.

Key Features
Iomega's Super DVD Writer 12x Dual-Format USB 2.0 Drive is
quick and easy to set up, operate and share among multiple computers and
operating systems, making it an excellent choice for virtually any writable disc
format, including CDs, single-layer DVDs and dual-layer DVDs.

Supported formats include DVD+R and DVD+RW (12x4x16x write, rewrite, and read speeds), DVD-R and DVD-RW (8x4x16x), and CD-R and CD-RW discs (40x24x40x). Ripping music CDs is also faster than ever, thanks to 40x digital audio extraction.

The new drive also features buffer underrun protection for reliable burns and comes with the Iomega DVD Solutions Wizard, which takes the guesswork out of recording tasks by helping users select the appropriate software and type of disc for different tasks.

The DVD+R DL Standard
DVD+R DL recording technology is a 'write-once"
recording technology that was developed by Philips and media manufacturer MKM.
It has been adopted by the DVD+RW Alliance, whose members include Dell,
Hewlett-Packard, Mitsubishi Chemical/Verbatim, Philips, Ricoh, Sony, Thomson,
Yamaha and Microsoft.

The dual-layer disc format consists of two recording layers of organic dye film. The top layer is semi-transparent, allowing the recording laser to focus on either the top layer or the bottom layer. When recording data, the laser heats microscopic regions on one of the recording layers, creating permanent dots in the organic dye film. The resulting data can be read in virtually any standard DVD player or DVD-ROM drive.

Software
Bundled software includes Iomega's DVD Solutions
Wizard, Iomega Automatic Backup, Iomega HotBurn Pro, Sonic MyDVD™ video-editing
software, Sonic™ Cineplayer software for the highest quality video playback,
