LG to demonstrate 480Hz LCD TV at CES

LG is set to fire the next shot in the television Hertz war with plans to unleash a 480Hz LCD TV in 2009.

Due to be on display at CES in Las Vegas next week, the "Trumotion 480Hz" set will feature a 4 millisecond response time and a "scanning backlight" technology that turns the backlight on and off rapidly to reduce motion blur and power consumption.

The televisions are expected to ship in the second quarter of 2009, although pricing details are yet to be released.

I hope CD Freaks reports on this set and gives us an unbiased reaction to this 480hz thingy. I am having a hard time understanding the real world benefit of such a tech. They just got me sold on how 120hz smoothed out action so how can the human eye tell any improvement, when we see 30FPS as smooth movement? Can I differentiate between a 120hz set and a 480hz one?

I thought the next thing was 240hz tv's which were supposed to come out in 2011. Now this in a few months? I'll believe it when I see them.

@Crabby

Well, maybe if your pet hummingbird is watching, he can tell the difference.

I'd also like to read/hear some first hand reports on whether or not these 480Hz TV's provide any significant enhanced viewing value.

Here in Germany we have the Panasonic VIERA LCD with both 400 and 480 mghz. The 480 is better but I can still see blur. I bought a Samsung Plasma instead

It sounds too me, that they are building these sets with so many failable components that their lifespan will be significantly less than their CRT counterparts which last for well over 20 years in most cases. I'm not sure I can justify spending on average $400/yr every year for TV expenses.
