Lite-On IT achieves record-high revenues in September

Lite-On IT, a well known brand for CD Recorders has reached record high revenues in September of NT$ 4.866 over the month.  Lite-On IT is currently also Taiwan's largest manufacturer of optical disc drives.  During September, DVD recorders accounted for around 20% to 30% of its shipments.

They estimate to reach their target of 56 million ODD sales which includes 9 million DVD ODDs.  Unfortunately due to pressure from competitors forcing its trade prices down, its operating profit went down 3.3% to 19% in the 3rd quarter compared with the 2nd quarter.  GristyMcFisty submitted the following news via our  news submit:

Lite-On IT, the largest manufacturer of optical disc drives (ODDs) in Taiwan, on October 4 announced that its consolidated revenues of NT$ 4.866 billion for September was a record monthly high for the company.

DVD burners accounted for 20-30% of the company's ODD shipments in September, and that figure is likely to increase to 55% later this year, said Michael Gong, general manager of Lite-On IT's optical-disc-drive business unit. The company expects its ODD shipments for this year to exceed its goal of 45 million units, while DVD burner shipments should reach nine million units, Gong added.

However, the company's gross operating profit rate dropped from 22.3% in the second quarter to about 19% last quarter due to price competition, institutional investors estimated.

With Lite-On being the main market leader for CD recorders before DVD-Recorders took off, it will not be much of surprise if Lite-On IT do as well with DVD recorders.  NEC seems to be the main leader currently with DVD recorders, mainly due to high quality recording, low cost as well as 16xDVD+/-R and 4 DVD+R DL support.
