Nero releases a major update to its Nero 6 Ultra Edition suite

12 Nov 05 21:05 by Seán Byrne in category Uncategorized To news archive

pizzadude, kdshapiro and wsaintcr all used our news submit to let us know that Nero, a well known optical disc recording suite has just released a major update to its Nero 6 Ultra Edition, including the addition of new features.  According to their website, to get the Nero PowerPack, the first two packages must be downloaded.  Apart from the addition of a Yahoo! Toolbar, there is no mention of what else is new in this version, since no changelog has been released at this time.

This major update covers the release of Nero 6.6.0.18 and its Nero Digital encoding suite version 3.1.0.21.  Both of these include the Yahoo! Toolbar by default, however the download & installation of this 3rd party add-on is optional.

Until Nero releases a changelog for this major update, the only way to find out what has been updated or added is to download and install at least their first two update packages.  These can be obtained from their download page here.  Feel free to discuss about Nero on our Nero & InCD Burning Software Sub-Forum.

All you have to do is uncheck the toolbar option when you download. Of course, the default is to download with the toolbar... gotta catch the suckers.

"All you have to do is uncheck the toolbar option when you download. Of course, the default is to download with the toolbar... gotta catch the suckers." It's more a question of what compelled them to put it in at all? The internet is getting to be a sick place:c

What compelled them? Money, like everything else It's a "strategic partnership" to 'enchance' Nero and give it something the public has always wanted but never knew they wanted it :g

The cool part is when people pay us to take crap like that off their computers so there web viewing area is more than 2 inches. I kid you not, last week I cleared up a lady's computer that had so many toolbar items and weather junk in excess her actual viewing area was 2 inches.

It seems everyone is doing it these days... I am a little scared that one day there will be no option to untick. Extras will just be installed without your consent. E.g. Quicktime is now in a version that forces u to install itunes when you don't even have an ipod!

Truman: Quicktime is also available without iTunes! You just have to hunt around the Apple QuickTime site a bit harder (I admit they don't make it that easy to find).

You can't update Adobe Acrobat Reader without installing the Yahoo Toolbar. It is VERY annoying.
