Denon launched a new upscaling DVD player incredibly featuring a higher price than true Hi Def players. Described as "Universal Player", the DVD-A1XVA can be purchased for… only £2700 (about € 4000 or about $ 5100).

But the really interesting part is this:

HDMI ports are featured – though we’re more than a little confused by the fact that they’re said to be HDCP-compliant.

Are there any SD-format DVD movies that require HDCP compliance? If not, then this might be a sign that they’re likely to be coming some time soon. Eeek!

Should we start to be worried?

Whoever is interested, can read more detailed features on Denon website.

So by Universal, does that mean that this player will only play movies from Universal Studios?? Or is this Universals way of using their name to get back all that money they have lost on their movies, by allowing a namebrand name to be used on a device haha. I hope you all know I am just being sarcastic. 4-5k for something like this is like buying a gold car. Stupid and useless

THX Ultra-Certification This adds probably $2000USD to the price Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) This probably adds $2000USD to the price So all in all the player is probably only $1000USD without the above listed items. Still not worth it then if you ask me. This is probably for business use only and not main stream consumers.
