The Playstation is more than a Blu-ray capable player, but many home theater enthusiasts hated its lack of support for DTS-HD. These complaints are answered since Sony will be adding support for DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio in the next system software update. The system software update, version 2.30, will also include the revamped Playstation store.
Now that the software update will add DTS-HD we can expect the high-definition visuals to be matched with the highest quality audio. This will make the Playstation the number one Blu-ray player once again. DTS-HD Master Audio is literally bit-for-bit identical to studio master recording and makes movie soundtracks come to life, Sony says. It offers 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24-bit depths.
This console starts to make it more and more stupid to buy a normal player. I am curious what this year’s fall will bring when Sony comes with more players in different price categories.
