Philips and Software Architects develop advanced CD-MRW

22 Jun 01 22:16 by ZiSE in category Uncategorized To news archive

Philips Components, a division of Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands, and Software Architects, Inc. (SAI), have signed a joint development agreement aimed at launching the world’s first integrated CD-MRW drive and software solutions for personal computers (PCs)–adhering to the Mount Rainier Group specifications for next-generation CD-MRW drives. CD-MRW disc drives combine the convenience and reliability of floppy disk drives with the high capacity and re-writability of conventional CD-RW drives.

Philips [...] is committed to being one of the world’s first suppliers to bring these drives to market realization.

Well so this should be the substitute for the floppy drive / zip drive / cd-r / cd-rw…well let’s see what comes out of this partnership. Philips is wel known for making products that never get really established in the market

"floppy" type disks are all really ****ing annoying, there must be at least 6 different types (LS120 LS240 1.44MB 30MB format of 1.44MB with new LS240 drives, Zip 100, and zip 250...) all with different capacitys and irritating incompatability with each other. :c Get rid of 'em all.
