A survey conducted by C-News
news service, aimed at 1000 Japanese consumers aged 10-59 years old, showed that
they’re more interested in PlayStation 3 than Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console. The
latter is expected to be available in months, while PlayStation 3 is still about
a year away to hit the retail market, but already conquering fans.

The study reports that 60% of consumers were
preferably interested in PlayStation 3 as their next-generation console, 8% were
looking forward to buy Nintendo Revolution and a mere 2% would like to
invest on a Microsoft Xbox 360. Even with 30% undecided consumers,
PlayStation would still take the first spot in the survey.

Among the general fanatics which are lead
exclusively by the company name, there were consumers who choose
PlayStation 3 because it is likely to have a wider range of software
and to be technogically superior, as Blu-Ray support.

border=0>In general, analysts are more optimistic about Microsoft’s
positioning in the market of game consoles.

width=82 align=left border=0>‘I think when we have this talk in 2010, Sony
is going to have 55%, Microsoft is going to have 35% and Nintendo 10%,
with all three of those having +/- 5%,” Wedbush Morgan Securities’
interactive entertainment industry analyst Michael Pachter said in

.

The customers polled in
w:st="on">Japan also revealed their
preferences about game genres during the survey. With multiply answers
allowed, 71.2% indicated interest in role-playing games; 52.8%  opted
for simulations which includes strategy titles in w:st="on">Japan;
47.9% preferred general action titles, 41.1% ‘“ adventures and 23.4% would
like to play shooters.

It is not too surprising that a survey conducted in
Japan appointed Sony PlayStation 3 as the top next generation console. Japanese
gamers are very loyal to Sony, and
href="http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/11597" target=_new> size=2>PSP was yet another prove of that, with half of million of sales in
the first week
. Microsoft is likely to
launch a huge marketing campaign in Japan in order to address primarily the ones
who remain undecided. It will surely be a challenge for the three
companies.
