Plextor
today announces the launch of the PX-740A, an internal E-IDE, dual-layer,
DVD and CD re-writer drive. Ideal for the cost-conscious buyer who doesn't
want to comprise on quality or speed. Offering fast writing speeds of up
to 16x, the drive is ideal for everyday home and small business users, who
don't require the extra professional features offered with Plextor's
flagship PX-716A dual-layer drive.

Still, the drive comes with Plextools professional, buffer
underrun protection technology, DVD±VR and users will have the capability
of chosing between a white or black bezel. It does not seem to have features
such as GigaRec, VariRec and SecuRec. The drive will become available from June
2005, no pricing information was given.
