Plextor Europe has just (officially) announced their latests DVD
recorder, the PX-716A. The drive will be the first Plextor DVD recorder to
support Double Layer recording and will do so at a maximum speed of 4x. Other
speeds include: 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW and 4x DVD-RW. Here is the information
as posted on the Plextor Europe website:

Plextor, one of the leading companies for the development and production of CD-ROM drives, CD-Recorders and CD-ReWriters is expanding its range with its first Double layer Dual Format drive. The PX-716A writes at 16X for DVD+R, 16X for DVD-R and 4X for DVD+R DL (Double Layer). The drive rewrites 8X DVD+RW and 4X DVD-RW. The PX-716A reads CD-ROMs at 48X and DVD-ROMs at 16X.

The PX-716A comes in internal version with a Tray load mechanism. The Retail package includes: PX-716A (DVD Recorder), E-IDE (ATAPI) cable, Plextor CD/DVD Utility Software (PlexTools Professional), an extra black front bezel, 16-language manual, attractive software from: Ahead, Pinnacle, Cyberlink, Sonic and Ulead.

The PX-716A is supported by a Fast Warrenty Service by Plextor, by which any inconveniences resulting from a defect are reduced to a minimum. The firmware is stored in FlashROM which makes it possible to quickly and easily upgrade to the latest version. CD TEXT is also completely supported.

With the PX-716A, the user has a perfect all-in-one product for creating own home videos, back-ups, composition of photograph collections, saving music..

The
Plextor PX-716A will be available this October for a suggested retail price of
EUR130. An external version and a S-ATA version of the PX-716A will also be
available soon. The PX-716A will be shipped with two front bezels, a
white one and a black one.

The Plextor PX-716A DVD recorder will
support all of the Plextor technologies such as GigaRec, Intelligent Recording,
SecureRecording, Silent Mode, Q-Check, VariRec and PoweRec. The most interesting
technology here is probably the Intelligent Recording technology. Quoting from
the press release:

The term 'Intelligent Recording' covers a number of
critical aspects that ensure the quality of reading and writing
functionality. 'AutoStrategy' is a self-learning writing technology for
developing a writing strategy. The advantage is that here we achieve good
writing quality on unprecedented media. 'IntelligentTilt' controls the
laser in three dimensions, with the purpose of achieving equivalent
writing and reading quality in the case of surface imperfections. Finally,
'PoweRec', is a complex piece of writing intelligence ensuring superior
recording quality at high speeds on certified
media.
