Plextor today announced the launch of its newest Solid State Drive (SSD), the M5S Series, with a specified read/write speed up to 73,000/70,000 IOPS and included technologies such as Instant Restore, Global Wear Leveling and Bad Block Managements.
The drive connects to the computer using an SATA III interface and contains a Marvel 88SS9174 controller. Plextor specifies that the MD5S drives are able to achieve 520 MB/s for sequential reading and 390 MB/s for sequential writing.

According to Plextor the drives have no performance loss after heavy usage, something of which many SSD drives suffer from. The M5S Series will be available in mid-July with in the current capacities: 64GB (PX-64M5S, $99.99), 128GB (PX-128M5S, $159.99) and 256GB (PX-256M5S, $299.99)

Don't expect the 9187 until the Pro versions of the M5

I had hoped that Plextor would have used the newer Marvell 88SS9187 controller for this range of SSDs. Nonetheless, that's a fast SSD.

However, the Marvell 88SS9187 controller is more advanced and faster than the Marvell 88SS9174 controller, so you can claw that performance back when using cheaper and slower NAND.

Faster NAND on the same controller will produce a faster SSD.
