Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6.0 versus Ahead Nero Burning ROM 5.5

The Houston Chronicle has a
an article that compares both Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6.0 and Nero 5.5. While
Ahead still has to increase the version number to 6, the company seems to
be able to compete with Roxio Easy CD Creator 6.0. The writer of the article, an
EasyCDCreator user for a long time, reviewed both packages and found out
that both have their advantages and disadvantages.

The result is
intresting as both companies have been competing for a long time on the market
and while Ahead is currently dominating the OEM market (software that comes with
the drive), it was expected that Roxio would hit back. Their retail version is
still USD 40 more expensive and did not really seem to impress the author of the
article.

One nice thing about Nero Burning ROM is that it's shareware. You
can download a copy, check it out and, if you like it, buy it. If you do
this, I would urge you to give the program some time. I'm a longtime Easy
CD Creator user, but I think I now prefer the level of control Nero
affords.

However, if you use Easy CD Creator, Nero will disable DirectCD when
you install it -- it has its own, similar program that conflicts with it.
Uninstalling Easy CD Creator is wiser, though make sure you've thoroughly
patched the Roxio program with all its available updates before removing
it. Some users have reported that older versions, upon uninstallation,
left them with disabled CD-ROM drives.

Most CD Freaks users also seem to prefer Nero Burning ROM, and with most of
the modern CD/DVD writers being shipped with this software the user base of this
software is likely to increase a lot more the coming years. Read the entire
story here.
