Sales of Sonic DVD software soar past the six million unit mark

MARIN COUNTY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12,
2003--Sonic Solutions announced today that the sales of its desktop DVD creation
applications, Sonic MyDVD® and DVDit!®, have topped the six million unit mark.
The announcement of this six million unit milestone has come only seven months
after Sonic announced reaching the three million unit mark, and highlights the
strength of the DVD burning market, as well as Sonic's leading position
supplying DVD creation software to PC, peripheral and drive OEMs.

"Since the introduction of recordable DVD, Sonic
has been providing an easy and robust experience for consumers creating their
own DVDs," said Jeff Loebbaka, Vice President and General Manager of Adaptec's
Desktop Solutions Group. "MyDVD is an exceptional application and a key
component of Adaptec's solutions, which help home PC users to connect, manage
and share their digital content. We are pleased to partner with Sonic to deliver
their award-winning software to consumers."

Based on the same technology as Sonic's
industry-leading Hollywood DVD production systems, Sonic MyDVD and DVDit! make
it fast and easy for home users and video enthusiasts to create DVDs and VCDs of
their own videos and photos and add the same sizzle found in Hollywood titles.
With the ability to simply drag-and-drop video and audio into a project, design
interactive menus and record the final content to DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW, DVD-RAM
or CD-R/RW, Sonic's DVD applications offer the most flexibility and
compatibility of any application on the market. With OpenDVD(TM) technology,
Sonic users can also re-edit their DVD and VCD projects at any time and add and
delete content and change menus.

"The accelerating trend of home PC video and photo
editing and TV recording, as well as the explosive growth of DVD recordable
devices, continues to fuel consumer demand for easy-to-use, high-quality DVD
creation software," said Mark Ely, Senior Vice-president of Strategic Planning
at Sonic Solutions. "We're very excited about the success of our desktop product
line, and we're extremely pleased to be playing such an important role in the
growth of this market."
