As the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) quickly approaches later this week, Samsung is prepared to unveil what is said to be the world’s slimmest LCD TV ever shown.
The South Korean made TV is just 6.5 millimeters (0.26 in.) thick, and is thinner than any competing TVs available on the market today. Currently the thinnest TV on the market is the Bordeaux 850 line from Samsung, and the new TV iis one seventh the thickness off the Bordeaux.
The TV will employ a backlighting system rather than relying on fluorescent lights — the industry, as it continues to go thinner, will likely use custom backlighting system. The use of organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology also will be more widely used as the interest in thinner TVs increases even more.
As a show based more for regular consumers, expect many other TV announcements, with analysts expecting a greater interest in thinner TVs.
LG plans to show off its LH95 LED TV that has 24.8mm thickness , supporting 240Hz and 2,000,000:1 contract ratio. JVC has a 7mm 32" LED LCD prototype that will be promoted during CES, with the TV weighing only 5 kilograms.
