SanDisk today introduced the slotRadio music player during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), as a portable music player for users who aren’t tech savvy.

The slotRadio Player has a die-cast aluminum casing with a 1.5-in. OLED screen that shows which channel is being played, and what FM radio station is broadcasting when using the built-in  FM tuner.

Users can navigate around playlists  and skip songs, but it’s not possible to skip backwards through songs already played or delete the songs off the card.  It’s also not possible to remove the songs from the slotRadio card and transfer them to a PC.

The new device comes preloaded with 1,000 songs, which fully eliminates the need for a PC and music library.  All of the music is organized by genre and was selected from the Billboard’s music charts, with users having the option to use other microSD cards loaded with music in the device.  There is rock, hip hop, country, contemporary music stations, in addition to "workout" and "chillout" stations.

When a user gets tired of the songs pre-loaded on their device, it’s possible to purchase another slotRadio card with 1,000 songs for $39.99 from SanDisk.

The SanDisk slotRadio music player will be available for $99.99.

SanDisk previously released the slotMusic player, a DRM-free MP3 player shipping with microSD cards that have MP3s from EMI Music, Universal Music, Warner Music Group and Sony BMG.

I'm not going to buy one of these for myself, but I see the appeal they have for someone who doesn't know how to manage a music collection and put it on an MP3 player. Besides that, it could make a decent enough gift, as the music appears to be from the Billboard charts.
