Seagate is at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in full force, introducing multiple new products for the living room.
The Bay Area company introduced the FreeAgent Theater HD media player, Showcast DVR Expander, and two new HDDs in the Pipeline HD Series.
The Seagate FreeAgent Theater HD media player has been designed to work alongside the FreeAgent Go portable HDD. Owners can store videos, music, images and other information while being able to play it on their TV. It supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4, while DivX videos are also supported.
Seagate will release the FreeAgent Theater HD this March. It will cost $129.99 for the standalone unit, with a 250GB FreeAgent Go drive for $229, or a 500GB FreeAgent Go HDD for $299.99.
The new additions to the Seagate Pipeline HD — the Pipeline HD Mini and Pipelline HD.2 — will help give consumers more storage capacity for their DVRs. The Pipeline HD Mini is a 2.5-inch HDD with 160GB and 250GB storage capacities. The Pipeline HD.2 is a 3.5-inch drive comes in 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB storage capacities. The most important news is the new 1TB storage capacity, which previously wasn’t available.
Seagate’s new Showcase DVR storage expander will allow DISH Network subscribers to record more television shows and movies on their 500GB USB-connected expander. The additional storage makes it possible for 500 hours of extra standard definition content or 100 hours of HD content.
With the addition of DVRs, game consoles and other technologies, more PCs and HDD-based technologies are heading into the living room.

Imangi Studios' hit iOS game "Temple Run" is slated to hit Android platforms on February 9. Cyber scammers seized on the anticipated event by uploading a malicious facsimile of the mobile app to the Android Market this week, infecting downloaders' devices with annoying advertisements and, worse still, no actual game.

Declining subscriber numbers seem to be forcing cable companies to attempt to push for drastic changes. Companies are lobbying the FCC to put regulations in place which would require every subscriber to rent a cable box or cable card regardless of whether or not they currently have a need for one.
