Besides Pioneer, who was showcasing a modified
Pioneer A06 drive writing to dual layer DVD-R discs, also Sony showcased a dual
layer DVD writer during the CES in Las Vegas. The Japanese electronics giant
showed the public a DVD+RW drive with support for dual layer writing. The
company did the demonstration with a writing speed of 2.4x and expects that the
compatibility with DVD players is very high.
The certification of the dual layer DVD+R standard has ended and the first
products should be available the first half of this year. The drive that was
demonstrated here is planned for sale around this
summer.
