Sony ships new Blu-ray recorders in Japan

By the end of the month Sony will ship two new Blu-ray recorders into Japan. The BDZ-A70 and BDZ-T90 both offer large storage capacities and can transfer multimedia files to your PSP and Walkman. The A70 is equipped with a 320GB HDD and for file transfers to your Walkman phone or PSP you only have to press one button. A set of two digital and single analog tuners are available for recording programs in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. For easy connection with HDV/DV camera Sony added an ethernet connector with i.Link interface. Finally the A70 has no problem with storing content on BD-R/RE and DVD±R/RW media.   

Sony’s BDZ-T90 is the T70 successor. The hard disk drive (500GB) on the T90 is larger than the A70. Two digital and two analog TV tuners are added, and the T90 is capable of burning dual-layer BD-R and RE discs. As far as we know now only the BDZ-A70 will be equipped with what is called ‘Dubbing 10′. This technology allows consumers in Japan to make up to nine copies of a recorded digital TV broadcast.

Before I tell the price, remember what Sony announced earlier… ‘We will begin to produce a wide range of new Blu-ray product lines at a variety of price ranges.’ Well, the A70 and T90 will cost you 170,000 Yen ($1660) which is once again a high price. If there will be cheaper recorders by this year’s fall, this can’t be said, but the Japanese manufacturer did promise this to happen.
