Study: Downloads to save music biz

Global music revenues will continue to decline for the next few years, but the industry will recover as fee-based digital downloads fluorish, according to a new online consumer study.

However the next few years will be rough for the recording industry, but

huge popularity of downloading songs from the Internet could actually help reverse the decline in global CD sales. The major music conglomerates first must become more flexible in pricing, allowing consumers to make impulse buys rather than sticking to a monthly membership fee. The major labels must also offer unlimited downloads of their entire song catalogs so users can buy the Beatles as well as Eminem or Nelly at the same time, for example.

Consumers, including young consumers, are quite willing to pay for music online if it's presented in a way that's reasonable to them

The bottom line adapt and survive or do nothing and die.

Of course the RIAA has put it's two cents in this article and indicates that illegal sites often contain poor sound, viruses, etc.. and best to go to legal sites to obtain music.
