Microsoft has revealed its plans behind the X-Box as you can read in the press release…
To best meet initial demand for the Microsoft(r) Xbox(tm) video game system around the world, Microsoft Corp. today announced key elements of its Xbox manufacturing and logistics plans. Under the plans, the company will bolster distribution capabilities by working with Flextronics International Ltd. to establish Xbox manufacturing facilities in several regions of the world. Microsoft also confirmed its plans to launch Xbox in North America and Japan in fall 2001 and in Europe in the first quarter of 2002, carefully staging the rollout of Xbox so that demand can be met in each region. “Our goal is to carry out a strong Xbox launch that is well-orchestrated and well-supported,” said Robbie Bach, senior vice president of the Games Division and chief Xbox officer (CXO) at Microsoft. “Meeting Xbox customer needs is job No. 1. After analyzing the supply and logistics challenges faced by the gaming industry this holiday season, we decided to clarify our new manufacturing plans so that we successfully meet product demand.” Flextronics will initially establish and manage regional Xbox manufacturing operations in Mexico and Hungary. Noted for its flexibility, quality and speed in manufacturing consumer electronics products, including Microsoft’s other hardware products, Flextronics has demonstrated its ability to deliver premium full-service global manufacturing projects. In addition, Microsoft’s long-term plan is to open a manufacturing facility in Asia to support markets in that region, including Japan. “Establishing regional manufacturing facilities will make the distribution support and service to our global retailers more efficient,” Bach said. “Microsoft is the only video game supplier that has set up a manufacturing and distribution center in Europe. And by deliberately staging our launches, we can better ensure that we meet customer demand in each area of the world.” With nearly a year before the Xbox launch, Microsoft has made tremendous progress in garnering support from the game development and retail community. The company has signed more than 200 of the world’s top game developers and publishers to create Xbox games. For example, it announced last week that Electronic Arts will provide up to 10 titles during the Xbox launch period. |

The best resolution PSX2 can do is 640x256, and with the help of the interlace method goes 640x480 max..how...nice since with my GeForce Ultra i'm playing at 1600x1200
Can't you just see that
TV or not , monitor or not, 640x256(480) sux nowadays.Especially for a such HIGHLY priced console.
I'm sorry guys, but it seems that i got spoiled by my GeForce 2 ULTRA and 21" Sony Monitor
Got IT!!!!!!!
first - TV has 625 lines vertical
(unless U'R in america!)
horizontal resolution?
tv horizontal is linear, so if you can generate 20000 pixels across then it will try to display it.
how good it looks is down to he design of the tube.
now - X-BOX.
if his shit takes off then the first thing to pirate and install will be LINUX!!!!!!!
WIN-CE can fuckoff, my friend has a cassiopia running CE,
what a shit-heap!!!!!
HE is hoping for a LINUX port soon!
for now - G-FORCE2 RULEZ!!!!!
i have a pc,psx, and a ps2 and whit all i have fun thats what its all about!
. And finally someone made a comment that you shouldn't get blue screens on the X-box 'cos you only get them on PC 'cos 3rd party manufacturer's don't know how to write drivers but the X-box won't have any 3rd party hardware - WRONG! what about memory cards? cable boxes (I believe the X-box does have ethernet for cable modem doesn't it?), joystick, joypads, steering wheels, USB devices, all will require some form of driver and there will be third party's making these devices (like the PSX, first you just got SONY memorycards, then other manufacturer's figured out how to make memory cards - some of which now can crash the PSX due to corrupt drivers, memory, parts, etc) As far as I can see the Microsoft X box will be another console to end up like Microsoft's other computer building attempts (the MSX and the MSX 2 - I suppose you could even look at the X Box as the MSX 3 - what is it with Microsoft and X's?) nowhere. (MSX's are old 8-bit computers that used the Z80 processor and 32k of memory and were really simple to use and easy to program, but only got somewhere in Japan 'cos they were beaten in the US and UK by the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum - despite being sold by numerous electronic firms including Sanyo, Toshiba and Matsushita (Technics/National/Panasonic).)
