Much to the excitement of gamers across the world, Jasper-based Microsoft Xbox 360 game consoles are finally being spotted on store shelves.
Highly anticipated for more than six months now, Jasper is expected to completely phase out Falcon-based consoles in the future. Even though the Xbox 360 has continued to rack up solid sales numbers, the Falcon-based consoles have been plagued with hardware issues that left many gamers frustrated.
The new Jasper motherboard supports a 65nm GPU, which is Microsoft’s answer to constant red ring of death (RRoD) problems that have plagued the company since the console’s launch. The new GPU replaces the 90nm GPU, and consumes less power while also fitting better into the motherboard socket.

In addition to the new GPU, there are several other important upgrades sure to help keep gamers happy. Each Jasper-powered Xbox 360 has 256MB of flash memory, designed to store the New Xbox Experience (NXE) dashboard. Falcon-based consoles had just 16MB of flash memory.
The new consoles also have a 150W power supply with a different plug, while the Falcon consoles have 175W PSUs. Jasper-based consoles reportedly are quieter than the previous generation, but the DVD drive was left untouched.
Xbox-scene has posted several images of the new Jasper revision motherboard, so you can head over and see some first hand images and read a bit more about some of the changes made.
Jasper was first expected to be released in August, but the necessary revisions took a bit longer, and Microsoft wanted to ensure it had as many bugs worked out as possible before launching the revision.
The exact SKUs of the new Jasper-based consoles remains unknown, but will likely be published sometime next week. Microsoft most likely isn’t going to comment officially about the Jasper revision, and most employees in your local brick and mortar retailer probably won’t know the difference, so do your homework if you’re going to purchase a new Xbox 360 in hopes of snagging a Jasper console.
