Yamaha ready to enter Blu-ray market

After patiently waiting for the war between Blu-ray and HD DVD to end before entering the market, Yamaha is finally ready to make a move with its BD-S2900 Blu-ray player.

Although nothing has been confirmed, the BD-S2900 is expected to use BonusviewView, Profile v1.1, with 1080p/24fps-compatible HDMI video output, 12-bit deep color, on-screen display with fully enhanced GUI, and will support Blu-ray, DVDs, burned DVDs and CDs.  The SDHC-compatible SD card slot lets users present images and videos taken from digital cameras or video recorders; a popular new technology in many new entertainment players.

The player has 192kHz/24-bit audio DAC support, with Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio supported, offering a high level of audio clarity for owners.

According to a leaked report published on the Internet, Yamaha plans to officially introduce the Blu-ray player during the CEDIA show, which starts on Sept. 4 in Denver.  There are unconfirmed release dates ranging from October 2008 to January 2009, with AVBuzz anticipating a November release.

The Yamaha BD-S2900 Blu-ray player comes with a hefty price tag, with industry insiders expecting it to retail for $1,199.95.

Yamaha will also introduce the 7.1-channel RX-V1900 — featuring four HDMI sockets, digital audio ports, USB, and other features — for $1,399.95 alongside the RX-V3900 for $1,899.95 and RX-Z7 for $2,699.95.

More details about the Yamaha Blu-ray player will be available after CEDIA.

While I am sure it kicks ass like most Yamaha gear...$1200 and its only profile 1.1 ? I would hope that's a mistake ! Or at least upgradeable...

Who really cares about profile 2.0? Us? Studios? Not all studios make blu-ray movies profile 2.0 so why should we pay premium for profile 2.0? Future proof? Nah. Do you really want to chat using a remote control? Do you want to browse internet? Do you want to see extras? Just go to your frinkin PC and do everything there! We just need good movies with good AQ and PQ. Oh, cheap movies and players.

Wow, I can't believe how cheap they are. I guess DVD has a run for its money.
