ADATA releases SSD firmware updates - fixes TRIM and stability

ADATA issued a press release announcing new firmware for a wide range of their models. The update is for ADATA SSDs using the SandForce 2200 controller and includes the following models, the SX910, SX900, SP900, SP800, S511, S510 and the S396.

Other manufacturers also released firmware updates for drives using the SandForce 2200 controller. The firmware has version number 5.0.7a and fixes the following issues:

  • Fixed a power management condition where the device failed to respond to COMWAKE, which might have resulted in the SSD not responding without being reset by the host.
  • Fixed the normalized value calculation for SMART Attribute 9 (Power-On Hours)
  • Fixed a SATA error recovery sequence coming out of PS1.
  • Fixed an issue during SMART self-test extended that could cause an unexpected read error.
  • Fixed an issue that could have caused the read thresholds to be artificially low during read disturb operations.
  • Fixed an issue that could have caused the drive to be unresponsive based on a flash program failure.
  • Fixed a theoretically possible instance where an UECC on the flash media while processing unaligned write commands that cannot be corrected by the ECC engine and RAISETM causes invalid data to be returned.

To upgrade your drive you can download an installer that is compatible with Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP.  Also the Linux distributions Fedora Core 12 64-bit and Fedora 14 32-bit are supported. It appears that ADATA is asking you to register before downloading the update but doesn't actually check for a valid e-mail address. Please post your experiences with this update in our SSD Forum.
