Adware claiming to 'speed up internet' secretly sends screenshots of active software to developer

Security researchers have discovered a new type of adware that makes screenshots of active applications and sends them to the server of the developer. The adware is called 'Faster Internet' and is according to one of the researchers, 'malware hidden behind an end user license '.

The adware creates an unique fingerprint of the computer based on its motherboard, CPU, hard drives, network adapters, and other information about the computer. This data is sent to the adware developer accompanied by screenshots of the active windows in Windows.

A serious security risk, according to discoverer of the malware, security researcher Lawrence Abrams of Bleeping Computer, "what if the victim had a password manager open to their online bank account, or their tax return showing their social security number and address, or private images that they do not want disclosed? Nobody knows who the people behind this are and what they may do with this information."

Currently only 17 of the 56 anti-virus engines from Virus Total recognize the adware.
