Aiseesoft abandons Blu-ray & DVD decryption biz - DVDFab related?

Two days after DVDFab lost their .com site due to an injunction from a US court, the Chinese company Aiseesoft, which has a long history of providing video products that can copy and convert DVD's and Blu-ray,  has abruptly withdrawn their support for products that have built-in decryption capabilities.

While we have no supporting evidence yet, this is likely in response to the recent pressure applied by the AACS LA to DVDFab in a US federal court. This lawsuit forced DVDFab to establish a new website on a different domain than their original .com site. Though it is entirely possible that Aiseesoft faced more direct pressure.

Here is a list of Aiseesoft products that have been withdrawn, though the list may not be complete:

  • Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper for Mac
  • Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper
  • Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper Platinum
  • Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper for Mac Platinum
  • Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper Ultimate
  • Aiseesoft Blu-ray Copy
  • Aiseesoft DVD Copy for Mac
  • Aiseesoft DVD Copy
  • Aiseesoft DVD Ripper
  • Aiseesoft DVD Ripper Platinum
  • Aiseesoft Mac DVD Ripper Platinum
  • Aiseesoft DVD Ripper for Mac

And you can see the differences between their website yesterday and today. They've clearly removed their ripping software from their website.

No matter why they have made this change, it is not good news for those who wish to make backups or convert media that they own. Our only hope is that the trend does not continue in a cascade effect throughout the various companies that provide video software. If more information is revealed regarding the exact reasons why Aiseesoft  abandoned this type of software, we will certainly update the story.

Many thanks to AGJ for alerting us to this news and to DVDRanger Forum, for providing a copy of the email he received from Aiseesoft. You can find the full copy of the email in this thread.

Update: According to a spokesman of the company, the change is not related to the recent DVDFab events. They decided on the change two months ago and will focus on video and mobile management software.
