Amazon creates Windows app to send files to Kindle with ease

On Thursday Amazon released a new Windows app that allows users to easily send files to their Kindle either via Windows Explorer or by using the print function in any application. Amazon is promising Mac users will not be left out and a version for OS X will be available soon.

Technically there is already a method in place to send documents directly to your Kindle. Each device has an email address associated with it, allowing users to email PDF files to the device for viewing or safe keeping. The Send to Kindle tool makes the process significantly easier and is free.

Amazon describes just how simple the process is by saying,

"From Windows Explorer, simply right-click on one or more documents and choose Send to Kindle. From any other Windows application that can print, select Print and choose Send to Kindle."

Send to Kindle currently allows Word documents, text files, pictures, PDFs, Mobi files (Amazon's e-book format), and other types of files. Users can also archive files in their Kindle Library, allowing them to be re-downloaded to their device at any time.

To send files to Kindle, you can either use WiFi, which is nice and free, or you have the option of paying 15 cents per megabyte to send the files using Amazon's Whispernet network, if your Kindle is equipped with 3G capability. That 15 cents per megabyte jumps up to 99 cents outside the USA.

Overall, this is a nice little tool that simplifies the process of packaging up files and sending them off to a Kindle. I'll be looking forward to the Mac version. Are any of you interested in a simple way to send files to your Kindle device? Is this a good solution for you? Let us know in the comments.
