Amazon & Netflix both sign deals for Disney & ABC streaming content

ABC/Disney is making deals with everyone this past week. Netflix has re-upped with ABC/Disney allowing them to keep content they were already providing as well as adding some new options. In addition, Amazon cut a deal with the studio, adding even more content to Amazon Instant Video.

Netflix already had a standing deal with ABC/Disney that has been extended and expanded. Prior seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives will still be available as will all episodes of Lost, Brothers and Sisters, and Ugly Betty. Disney content like Phineas & Ferb and Hannah Montana will also still be available on Netflix. A few shows are being added, most notably Alias.

Amazon is definitely trying to keep up with Netflix’s catalog and as such, they also managed to strike a deal with ABC/Disney to bring a good amount of content to Amazon Instant Video. This deal provides much of the same content to Amazon Prime customers as the Netflix deal. Shows like Grey’s Anatomy, and Lost will be available as well as Felicity. Amazon is also getting a slew of animated content as well, including Marvel shows like Spider-Man, X-men Evolution, and Iron Man: ExtremisPhineas & Ferb is also included in the Amazon deal.

It’s positive to see Amazon pursuing new content for Instant Video so aggressively. Hopefully the company can make enough headway on Netflix to provide a strong competitor. Do you care about any of the ABC/Disney content on any streaming service? What does Amazon need to do in order to draw customers away from Netflix?
