Amazon tests offering free digital download with Blu-ray and DVD purchases

Amazon is currently testing a feature where buyers of Blu-ray or DVD discs automatically receive a digital copy of the movie or serie in their online video library. This is similar to Ultraviolet discs where buyers of a physical disc receive a code where they can download a digital version of their movie or serie.

The same concept is now tested by Amazon, according to several users on the Bluray-disc.de forums. These users report they received an email from Amazon explaining the new feature.

Customers of Blu-ray or DVD discs will automatically receive a digital copy of the content which can be downloaded for free from the Amazon video library. The downloaded movies can be watched on laptops, TVs or using the Amazon Video app on mobile devices.

In the email that Amazon currently sends to testers, the company stresses that it's currently testing the feature. This means the digital copies can disappear without any warning. The world's largest online retailers has not officially announced it's testing this feature.
