AMD releases unlocked budget APUs, $100 - $150 up to 6.5Ghz

In October AMD will release its latest APUs, chips in which the  GPU and CPU are combined. With the upcoming release, the company is offering two quad-core chips which can be easily overclocked but are suitable for people on a budget. The unlocked chips can be identified by the 'K' in the model name and according to AMD's desktop products manager Adam Kozak, the chips can be overclocked to 6.5Ghz when they are cooled with liquid nitrogen.

The two APUs that can be unlocked have the model numbers A8-5600K and the A10-5800K.  The latter will run, unlocked, at a clockspeed of 4.2Ghz and has 348 graphic cores with a CPU  clockspeed of 800Mhz. The A8-5600K has a clockspeed of 3.9Ghz and the chip has 256 graphic cores running at 760Mhz. Both have 4MB of cache and consume about 100 watts.

What makes them interesting is that they should become available in a price range of $100 to $150, where Intel's CPUs that can be unlocked start at $216.  The new AMD APUs should become world-wide available on October 2nd.
