The American government has warned parents for the password used on their baby monitoring devices. It also warns for other possible security threats for theses devices that allows parents to monitor their baby over the internet.
They are regularly in the news because e.g. they get hacked. The American telecom watchdog FTC therefore decided to test 5 of these baby cameras. Only one of them demanded a strong password, the other four allowed weak passwords like 'password'. Three of the cameras allowed users to enter an incorrect password unlimited times making it vulnerable to a bruteforce attack.
Two of the cameras didn't send the video of the devices over an encrypted connection to the router, and one device didn't send the video encrypted over the web.
The FTC advises users to make security of these kind of devices top priority when buying a new one. New and current users should also use a strong password and make use of any security feature available on the baby monitor camera.
