American utility locks down network after ransomware infection

The American public utility Lansing Board of Water & Light has posted on Facebook and Twitter that the company has become the victim of ransomware. It's unknown which type of ransomware infected the network but the malware did its job after someone opened an email attachment.

The utility quickly decided to lock down its networks to prevent further damages and announced it's currently working with local, state and federal law enforcement authorities.

The company provides drinking water and electricity and was able to continue to do so during the attack. Lansing Board of Water & Light also stresses that no personal customer info has been compromised.

Customers are redirected to two phone numbers to report all outages because the utility's other reporting systems don't function due to the ransomware.
