Anonymous retaliates against Italian police with 8GB data release

Anonymous is clearly none too pleased with Italian authorities right now.  A hacker affiliated with Anonymous and Operation AntiSec has just released a dump of 8GB of data taken from Italy's CNAIPIC cyber defense police squad.  The data allegedly contains information from a number of corporate, defense, and intelligence agencies from around the world.

The text accompanying the data release clearly indicates that this dump will be the first in a series, meaning a great deal more than 8 Gb of data was grabbed.

"Heynow,

This is a prerelease of a series we are going to make to reveal the biggest in history of European LE cyber operation Evidence exploitation and abuse. Thing's gonna get published and twittered all over anonymous and lulzsec community."

The text goes on to reveal some of the companies and agencies the data is associated with.

"Today we reveal a whole Load of stuff (estimated leak would be over 8Gb) from such owned institutions, just to make it clear all of this stuff was stored on CNAIPIC evidence servers for years while people are doing time in jail waiting for the trial while CNAIPIC used the evidence in the global spy game galore:

1. Egypt: Ministry of Transport and Communication
2. Australia: Ministry of Defence
3. Russia: Atomstroyexport, Diaskan, Sibneft, Gazprom etc.
4. Ukraine: several embassies and consulates on it’s territory
5. Nepal: Ministry of Foreign Affairs
6. Belarus: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Belneftehim, Belspetzexport
7. Gibraltar, Cyprus, Cayman Islands etc: Tecno Develp, Line Holdings,    Dugsberry Inc, Alpha Prime, Alpha Minerals etc.
8. Vietnam: PetroVietnam (PTSC), Ministry of Natural Resources (MONRE)
9. USA: EXXON MOBIL, US Department of agriculture and hundreds of attorneys and DOJ accounts including: McCallion & Associates LLP, Goodkind, Labaton, Rudoff & Sucharow, LLP, and hundreds of bullshit agencies we don’t even know why we pay taxes to support all of them."

The end of the text claims that there will be 4 updates in total to this release of information.   That is a whole lot of internal data released out into the wild.   The release also claims the reason for this attack and subsequent data dump was because the organization gathered data from seized computer systems and then proceeded to use that information in illegal operations with foreign agencies.  How much truth there is to that statement and how it can be specifically proven isn't clear.

What is clear is the retaliatory nature of this attack.  Earlier this very month, Italian police arrested a number of people suspected of being members of Anonymous.  The total number of people arrested in Italy was 15.  Another group of arrests was recently carried out in the United States by the FBI.  Anonymous is clearly unhappy with the arrests and looking to strike back against the groups responsible for them.  Will the FBI be the next target?
