AP and GfK survey: 52% have never heard about Windows 8

29 Oct 12 17:59 by in category Software, Windows 8

Research company GfK, together with the Associated Press has published the results of a survey on Windows 8. They asked 1200 adults in the United States and the results show that Redmond’s marketing machines have a lot to do. They will need to create both awareness and a positive vibe around the latest Windows version which was released last Friday.

Of the respondents 52% had never heard about Windows 8, despite of all the recent press attention.

Of the 48% that did hear about Windows 8, 62% had little or no interest in purchasing a new computer with Microsoft’s latest operating system and only 35% of the people who heard about Windows 8 thought it was an improvement.

They also asked about Microsoft’s new Surface tablets that should compete with Apple’s Ipad, Amazon’s Kindle and the recently announced Google Nexus tablets. The results are also not what Microsoft hoped for,  69% of the respondents had little or no interest in buying them.

I think Surface is more likely to compete with Zune and Kins for landfill space, than it likely to "compete" with iPad.

"AP and GfK survey: 52% has never heard about Windows 8"

And this surprises you?
52% of Americans have probably never heard of Evolution, Galileo, Copernicus,
or that Canada beat them in the War of 1812.
They will on the other hand be able to quote any useless futbawl statistic and be able to recite the names of every Light Beer in Mrrika or the names of everyone that has ever appeared on Oprah.

I really can't believe MS is not leveraging Kinect technology in Win 8 and marketing the crap out of it. Windows 8 metro sounds like its made for Kinect style motions but instead they're telling you to use a KB & mouse with a UI made for touch screens. Just shows how dysfunctional MS has become. If you don't believe it, go read about why the MS Office team is "out if sync" with other MS products. It's really unbelievable and you would never see this in a cohesive well run company.

@Oldd,

Why such hate for the US?
Is it something to do with hockey?

I like both countries.
