AP and GfK survey: 52% have never heard about Windows 8

Research company GfK, together with the Associated Press has published the results of a survey on Windows 8. They asked 1200 adults in the United States and the results show that Redmond's marketing machines have a lot to do. They will need to create both awareness and a positive vibe around the latest Windows version which was released last Friday.

Of the respondents 52% had never heard about Windows 8, despite of all the recent press attention.

Of the 48% that did hear about Windows 8, 62% had little or no interest in purchasing a new computer with Microsoft's latest operating system and only 35% of the people who heard about Windows 8 thought it was an improvement.

They also asked about Microsoft's new Surface tablets that should compete with Apple's Ipad, Amazon's Kindle and the recently announced Google Nexus tablets. The results are also not what Microsoft hoped for,  69% of the respondents had little or no interest in buying them.
