After an update of the Philip Hue app Thursday evening, the iOS application crashes making it impossible to control the Hue lights with the app. Hundreds of users complain on Twitter and the App Store about the apps constantly crashes during startup.

The Philips Hue application can be used to switch lights on and off and to change the light color, which is now impossible. The update should have added a feature that would switch off the lights on double tap and it should have fixed some  smaller issues. Even worse, Philips promised "improved stability" with the update.
It's unknown what causes the current issues and when the app will work as it should again. In a comment to the issue Phillips writes, "we apologize for the inconvenience and work on a solution. The Hue lights can still be controlled using Hue apps on other platforms, the website and the physical switch Hue Tab. The lights also work without the Philips Hue functionality. Currently users can use the regular light switch to turn the lights on and off."

Philips also advizes users to not install the current version or the update.
